Quantity

Description / Abstract: The external threaded fastener protrusion shall be defined as the external threads including the chamfer which extend through the top surface of the nut, see Figure 1.

The external threaded fastener shall be defined in accordance with AS3062, and ISO 3353.

The one piece all metal self-locking nut shall be defined in accordance with AMS 7251, AMS 7252 and AMS 7253

The minimum external threaded fastener protrusion is essential to fully engage the locking feature of the nut with the full P.D. of the external threaded fastener, see Figure 2.

The external threaded fastener shall protrude through the self-locking nut a minimum length equal to 1.5 pitches of thread. Minimum length shall include the thread chamfer on the external thread. Where chamfers exceed the requirements of Incomplete Lead threads of AS3062, this recommendation shall not apply.

Purpose:

To establish a recommended practice for the minimum protrusion of external threaded fasteners through one piece all metal self-locking nuts.
