The Probe Style, Non-Locking, Self-Aligning, Self-Sealing
Couplings covered by this specification are for use in aircraft
fluid systems where lightweight and limited space are primary
concerns. The Class 500 couplings are intended for Avionics, low
pressure cooling systems while Class 4000 are for high pressure
petroleum or synthetic base fluid systems.
The couplings are used where it is required to disconnect the fluid lines without necessitating drainage of the system fluid. The couplings are normally installed into a manifold cavity; a misalignment provision during connection is accommodated as specified. The coupling's halves are held together by means of external force and locking mechanism respectively.
