SAE AMS2467 1995 Edition, October 1, 1995 Hard Anodic Coating of Magnesium Alloys Alkaline Type, High Voltage
Quantity

Description / Abstract: Form:

This specification establishes the procedures used to produce a hard anodic coating on magnesium alloys and the properties of the coating

Application:

This coating has been used typically to provide corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance to sand-cast magnesium alloys, but usage is not limites to such applications

Classification:

Anodic finishes are classified by coating thickness as follows:

Class 1 Thin coating: Coating thickness shall be in the range of 0.0002 to 0.0004 inch (5 to 10 μm) and produce a dimensional buildup on the part of 0.0001 to 0.0002 inch (2.5 to 5 μm)

Class2 Thick coating: Coating thickness shall be in the range of 0.0008 to 0.0010 inch (20 to25 μm) and produce a dimensional buildup on the part of 0.0004 to 0.0005 inch (10 to12.7 μm)

If a class is not specified, lass 1 shall be supplied

Safety-Hazardous Materials:

While the materials, methods, applications, and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the hazards which may be involved in such use. It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved
