SAE HS 2200 1999 Edition, January 1, 1999 Piston Ring Standards Manual

Description / Abstract: This compilation is provided as a convenient reference for SAE standards for piston rings for internal combustion engines. The standards may generally be applied to piston rings for reciprocating compressors, also. These documents replace the SAE J929a and SAE J1201 standards, which are obsolete. Standards for cast iron sealing rings, SAE J281 (Customary Units) and SAE J1236 (Metric Units), are not included herein, but are available as separate documents.

Most of these SAE standards were adapted from a series of metric piston ring standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)*. The United States was represented in the deliberations for the ISO documents by the United States Technical Advisory Group (USTAG). The USTAG Committee eventually evolved into the SAE Piston Ring Standards Committee and was responsible for converting the standards from ISO to SAE. The committee is now also responsible for piston standardization, and hence has become the SAE Piston and Ring Standards Committee.

The past and present members of the USTAG and/or Piston Ring Standards Committee include:
