Description / Abstract:
Shot peening is intended to induce surface compressive stresses
in metal parts which are subjected to repeated applications of
complex load patterns such as axles, springs (helical, torsional
and leaf), gears, shafting, aircraft landing gear, structural
parts, etc., for the purpose of improving resistance to fatigue and
stress corrosion cracking. Ceramic and glass bead peening, either
wet or dry, is used when iron contamination of non-ferrous parts is
a consideration
